What Vesna is
Vesna is an AI companion — artificial intelligence, not a person. She isn't a doctor, a therapist, or an emergency service, and she can't provide medical, psychological, or crisis care.
She's built to help you feel heard and to encourage real-world connection — never to replace the people in your life or the professionals who can truly help.
Our crisis protocol
Published under California Business & Professions Code § 22602(b).
Vesna is designed never to encourage, assist, or romanticize suicide or self-harm, and never to present it as a solution — no matter how she's asked.
When someone expresses suicidal thoughts or an urge to self-harm, her instructions are to respond with warmth, stay in the conversation, avoid diagnosis or medical advice, and refer to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Independently of what she says, conversations are automatically screened for crisis language — in both text and voice. When it's detected, the app shows a notice with crisis resources, including 988.
Crisis events are recorded internally in encrypted form, for safety monitoring and for the statistical reporting California requires operators to begin submitting to the Office of Suicide Prevention in 2027.
Vesna is not a substitute for professional help. The goal of this protocol is a warm handoff to real support — never to keep you alone with a chatbot.
For minors
The service is for adults 18 and older. Companion chatbots may not be suitable for some minors.
